A new artist residency at Area Science Park is launched in collaboration with MEET Digital Culture Center as part of the European S+T+ARTS initiative. In recent weeks, Area Science Park hosted Studio Above&Below, the British artist duo who won the sixth MEET challenge within the project “S+T+ARTS in the City”, developed in the framework of the European Commission STARTS programme (Science, Technology and the Arts). Their project, Regenerative Symphony, explores the relationship between critical materials, artificial intelligence systems, and electronic waste recycling, reflecting on how technology, data, and environmental challenges intersect. After designing the challenge and selecting the winning artists, MEET Digital Culture Center partnered with Area Science Park to support the residency by giving the artists access to research infrastructures, open data, and scientific expertise. During the residency, the artists also interacted with researchers from the LADE and LAME laboratories, exploring topics related to materials science, data science, and life sciences. In this video we talk with Daria Jelonek and Perry-James Sugden, founders of Studio Above&Below, about their artistic research and their experience at Area Science Park.
