This project is the development of a Real Time Thrust Meter. The idea of the project arose from a friend who needs to plot a graph of the thrust of a small fireworks rocket against time. Thus, the user would be able to analyse and improve the thrust of the rocket produced in a short period of time. The objective of the project is therefore to build a thrust measuring device. Thrust being a force in motion makes it difficult to measure. However, a stable instrument is to be developed where thrust is converted to a bending force which produces strain on a bending beam and that strain is measured via strain gauges. Thus a specific cantilever beam is to be designed via Computer Aided Design software. The final outcome of this project is a specifically designed metal beam with four mounted strain gauges that measure in real time the bending of the beam. The beam mounted to a base resulted in being able to measure up to 5 Kg of thrust and plotting a real time curve for the thrust of the fireworks rocket.
