Use the power of the sun to fuel your iPhone 6(s)? Is this just a gimmick or is the Sunny Solar Case actually useful? Get it now on Amazon: http://mreh.ca/SunnySolar-iP6s *Non-US viewers need to go through my website in order to be brought to the right Amazon store Web Review: http://mreh.ca/1Y2GZwZ Today I’m going to do a review on the Sunny Solar Power Battery Case. This is a solar powered battery case for the iPhone 6 and 6s. I’ve reviewed other solar powered cases like the ones from Enerplex and Snow Lizard and I have to say, the Sunny case is the best one so far. By the end of this review, I’ll tell you if it was possible for me to go a week without charging my iPhone from a wall socket. Based on my time with the Sunny solar powered case, I’ve given it a score of 4.3 EH’s out of 5. This is not a small accessory at all but the solar powered charging is unique and the 2500 mah capacity will allow you to take your iPhone further away from a wall socket. If you want to know what I are the best products for the iPhone 6’s and s’s, check out my website and look for the Best of the Best post. In terms of design, installation of the iPhone into the case is simple as all you have to do is un-hook the top part of the case and slide the iPhone in. The ease of installation is nice because I wasn’t comfortable leaving my iPhone out in the sun, unattended for hours at a time. The Sunny case is definitely not a small case but we’ll let that slide since it does come with a 2500mAh battery and the back actually folds out which means you get more solar charging goodness. There are solar panels on the insides of the panel which is smart as it means there are twice as many solar cells and according to Sunny, they say it will charge the iPhone 4 times faster. I have no idea if that’s true since again, this is the only solar powered case for the iPhone 6 I’ve used so far…at the time of this video, I’m still waiting for my Snow Lizard Xtreme for the 6. 1.5 years after I pre-ordered it and 3 months before the 7 comes out. The solar panel has an efficiency of 22.4% which is higher than the average panel that goes on houses and in a perfect world, can collect a max of 500mA from the sun. From my multiple charge cycles, I’ve only noticed it go up to 385 mA but the strength of the sun varies on where you. Theoretically, the entire battery should charge in about 5 hours if operating a peak output with no efficiency loss but from my experience, that’s way too optimistic. I think the quickest full charge I got took approx. 18 hours to get and that was leaving it outside for 1.5 days. I could never find the perfect place to put the sunny case as shadows from everything would end up ruining a good day of charging. How about indoor charging? The solar meter returns a whole lot of bagel which doesn’t mean its not charging but I think it would take years for a full charge. For protection, the case isn’t drop rated though Sunny’s marketing fluff does point out the cases gorgeous, rugged design. I see stuff like this and I am a little baffled because the abstract design on the back of the panel has nothing to do with the actual toughness of the case. In my head, its the equivalent of a guy who’s trying to get stronger by only doing bicep curls. The edges of the case are high enough to keep it off a flat surface and you’ll have a pretty easy time using edge-to-edge screen protectors. I’ve tried with the Winnergear Topaz and Moshi AG screen protectors and they stay on. When it comes to accessing your iPhone, you can sync through the case using the MicroUSB cable. The buttons are fairly easy to use and the sound coming from the speakers is projected outwards so you won’t have to worry about silencing your iPhone by accident when you place it in your backpack. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Subscribe to stay in the loop!
