The addition of the JBI Fork Volume Spacer allows for running lesser fork outer chamber oil volume so the spring seat engagement is delayed until the near end of travel (smooth fork feel) while the fork internal pressure still builds up progressively to provide firm bottoming control. This setup is very advantageous when trying to blend the most amount of fork comfort and fork bottoming resistance. Testing and tuning has shown that when fork outer chamber oil volumes are above a certain volume the spring seat engagement is too early / too soon and creates a harsh feel because of the additional compression resistance. When the fork outer chamber oil volume is reduced fork then becomes too soft because the engagement is delayed later in the travel but also the internal pressure build inside of the fork is reduced. When tuning suspension there are many variables that can be adjusted and tuned. Commonly increasing or decreasing the oil volume in the fork outer chamber is one method of altering how progressively firm a fork builds up compression resistance while compressing down through travel. Adding / Subtracting oil volume to the fork outer chamber affects how much internal pressure builds up inside the fork as the fork compresses down reducing fork volume. On a twin chamber fork when adding or subtracting oil volume in the fork outer chamber this directly affects when the fork spring seat / spring perch engages the fork outer chamber oil. When the fork spring seat engages the fork outer chamber oil this results in additional compression resistance (aka bottoming resistance) as the oil must be forced / pushed through the spring seat. The more oil volume inside of the fork outer chamber the sooner the fork spring seat will engage the outer chamber oil and provide additional compression resistance aka bottoming control. As fork outer chamber oil volume is reduced the spring seat engagement is delayed until deeper in the fork travel thus reducing fork bottoming resistance while the internal fork pressure is reduced as well.
