After slaying his father Hreidmar for the treasure, Fafnir's greed consumed him so completely that he transformed into a dragon, coiling around his gold in a dark cave. His brother Regin would later send the hero Sigurd to slay him, continuing the curse's bloody path. Fafnir's tale warns us: the treasures we hoard can become the prisons we inhabit.
