LÖBNER Watches, a German horological brand with deep historical roots, presented a compelling collection at Time to Watches 2025 in Geneva. At the heart of their showcase was a mechanical chronograph that traces its lineage back to 1881. This historic timepiece was capable of measuring one-hundredths of a second—an extraordinary achievement for its time—and it marked LÖBNER’s early contribution to high-precision short-time measurement. This capability played a key role in disciplines such as sports, military operations, and scientific research. The legacy of this technical mastery continues in the brand’s latest designs. Learn more at https://www.lbnr.com Among the standout pieces was a modern chronograph inspired by a 1938 Mercedes-Benz world speed record attempt, which reached 432 km/h. This tribute watch features a red marker on the tachymeter scale to commemorate that exact velocity. The watch is built around a mechanical chronograph movement from LJP (La Joux-Perret), which has been modified to emphasize timekeeping precision. The hours and minutes are subtly placed in the background at the 10 o'clock position, drawing visual focus to the central chronograph hand—a deliberate choice reflecting the brand’s performance-first philosophy. A noteworthy technical feature is the sliding crown protector. This mechanical element prevents accidental activation of the chronograph during time-setting, a thoughtful detail that protects the movement's integrity. This detail reinforces the dual emphasis on usability and mechanical durability, reminiscent of mid-century tool watches. The chronograph is offered in several aesthetic variations, including dials in silver, black, and blue, with options for rubber straps and ceramic bezels. In 2025, LÖBNER expanded their range with a new three-hand model, engineered with the same architectural case design and crown protection system. Although not a chronograph, this piece maintains the same mechanical spirit, with a rotating bezel that allows users to track elapsed time in a simplified manner. The design language is firmly rooted in German industrial aesthetics—angular, bold, and unapologetically functional. Some of the models are housed in closed casebacks while others may offer different levels of visibility into the movement. Across the line, the watches use automatic calibers sourced from La Joux-Perret, known for their reliability and modular chronograph architecture. This alignment with a respected Swiss movement manufacturer supports the brand’s emphasis on combining German design thinking with Swiss mechanical precision. LÖBNER’s current distribution is anchored by a partnership with Bucherer, placing the watches in key retail locations across Zurich and five major German cities. The brand’s strategy reflects a selective distribution model focused on high-visibility and prestige retail partners, ensuring that the watches reach connoisseurs in curated environments. There’s also a clear intent to scale beyond Europe. Asia, and particularly Japan, China, and the ASEAN countries, is cited as the next major focus. Thanks to founder Emanuel Dietsch’s prior experience in watch distribution, the company already has entry points into these markets. Participation at Time to Watches is part of a larger networking strategy to solidify relationships with potential Asian distributors and build long-term regional partnerships. The brand appears to be positioned as a niche player catering to enthusiasts of precise timekeeping instruments with historical relevance. Rather than focusing on luxury status alone, LÖBNER communicates a story of mechanical integrity, legacy in performance timing, and bold yet clean design. The watches are tools first, with aesthetics and storytelling that support the function rather than distract from it.
