Inside Supportive Care: Episode 3 | Involving patients and parents in research

Receiving a cancer diagnosis as a child or young person is life-changing. While amazing medical advances mean that many will survive their cancer, living through and beyond treatments that are so intensive and toxic is traumatic. Of the children who do sadly die with cancer, 1 in 3 will die not because of the cancer itself, but because of the side effects of treatment. And yet, little research is being done to help make cancer care kinder for children. Until now. In our new video series, ‘Inside Supportive Care’, we’re taking you behind the scenes of the Candlelighters Supportive Care Research Centre. Opened in 2023, the centre is leading world-class research to reduce side effects from treatment, enabling young people to have the fullest life possible during treatment and increasing their chances of survival. With a £1 million, five-year investment, we’re driving research that can transform treatment experiences and improve young lives - in the UK and internationally.
