This is a new addition to my small collection of radios, a very neat Philips Philetta Euro 280. This model was built from 1968 - 1970. It is fully transistorized. The special feature of this "Euro" model is a separate medium wave scale. The standard "M I" scale (second from left) covers the frequency range of 530 kHz to 1300 kHz. The separate "M II EURO" scale reaches from 1300 kHz to 1600 kHz, so a smaller portion of the medium wave band is spread over the full lenght of the scale. Thus, there are fewer stations on the scale and they are wider apart from each other, so that tuning is more comfortable. Back in the day, many popular European stations were broadcasting in this portion of the medium wave band. Today there are still many interesting stations to receive in this part of the medium wave band, one of them is a DX from China on 1521 kHz, which can be easily mistaken for a russian station, because the main language is russian: Radio Kitaya, wich means Radio China. In this video you will hear: 00:00 Tuning to 1521 kHz at 18.00 UTC to Chinese interval music 01:13 One hour later, receiving the interval music with a weak signal, interference from Spain 03:38 Radio China Internatinal chime at 19.00 UTC 04:28 Start of Radio Kitaya program in russian language 06:00 Distinct Radio Kitaya jingle music, followed by russian narration 08:55 Chinese music at the end of full hour 11:13 Radio China jingle 12:05 End of transmission at 20.00 UTC, Spain remains on the frequency The audio was directely taken from the line-out socket of the radio and fed into the line-in of an external soundcard. A 2 x 15 m dipole was connected to the antenna socket of the radio via an external preselector. The receiving location is in south Germany.
