Boilers are machines. Even the most reliable and well-maintained boilers can encounter issues from time to time. Let's find out what the FD error code is in the Ideal Logic boiler. 🔍 What is the FD error code? [NO WATER FLOW] If you’re seeing the FD fault code on your Ideal Logic boiler, it means there’s no water flow in the system. Now, when this code shows up, your boiler will automatically shut down; this is what’s called a lockout. It's a built-in safety feature to prevent any damage to the boiler while the issue is being sorted. 🛠️ Possible Causes: Let's see what causes the FD error. [Low Water Pressure] The first cause is low water pressure. Your boiler needs a steady pressure to run smoothly, ideally around 1.3 bars. If it drops below 1, your boiler might not detect enough water flow, which can trigger the FD fault code. So, if your pressure gauge is looking a little low, that could be your culprit. [Blocked or Damaged Pump] Next, check the pump. If your boiler is showing the FD error, it could be due to a blocked or damaged pump, which circulates hot water throughout the system. This issue may be caused by heating sludge buildup or wear and tear on the pump's shaft or bearings over time. [Incorrect Pump Installation] Another cause is Incorrect pump installation. There’s a chance the pump wasn’t set up correctly. If it’s not properly aligned or fitted, it can impact water flow, and that could trigger the FD code, too. [Leaks in the System] Finally, don’t forget about leaks. Even tiny leaks in your boiler or pipework can reduce pressure and disrupt water flow, causing the FD fault. And remember, not all leaks are obvious. Sometimes, a small hidden drip can cause big problems. 🔧 How to Troubleshoot: Let's find out how to fix the FD error code. [REPRESSURISE YOUR BOILER] To fix the FD fault on your Ideal boiler, start by checking the pressure gauge; if it's below 1 bar, repressurise the system using the two blue taps on the filling loop until it reaches around 1.3 bars. If the pressure continues to drop or the fault remains, there may be a leak in the system. [CHECK FOR VISIBLE LEAKS] Leaks around your boiler can lead to pressure loss and trigger the FD fault, so if you spot any dripping water, damp spots, puddles, or hear unusual sounds, turn off the boiler immediately and contact a Gas Safe engineer. [LISTEN FOR NOISY PUMP SOUNDS] If you hear loud or unusual noises coming from your boiler’s pump, it could be blocked by sludge or starting to fail. While a Gas Safe engineer can flush the system to remove buildup, a damaged pump may require replacement. [CHECK PUMP INSTALLATION] If your boiler was recently installed or relocated, a misaligned pump could be the culprit behind poor water circulation and recurring faults. Fortunately, a certified engineer can realign or reinstall it, and if the issue is installation-related and under warranty, the repairs may be covered. [INVESTIGATE HEATING SYSTEM LEAKS] While minor issues like a damaged joint are often quick to fix, more serious leaks, such as faulty seals or internal damage, can affect critical components like the PCB, making the timely investigation of heating system leaks essential. [CALL A GAS SAFE ENGINEER] If you've tried all the troubleshooting steps and the FD fault code still appears, it's time to call a certified Gas Safe engineer, who can identify and fix leaks, inspect and repair the pump, and diagnose any internal faults affecting water flow. 🏢 About Us: At Serviceteam, our team of skilled Gas Safe engineers handles every make and model of gas and electric boilers.
