However, if more rabbits give the same answer than can fit in a single group of size answer + 1, we’re forced to start a new group. This ensures that every rabbit's statement holds true, and we don’t exceed the maximum implied by any individual answer. The goal is to account for all these groups in the most efficient way possible, while still staying honest to what the rabbits are telling us. By grouping the rabbits smartly based on their answers, and keeping track of how many full groups we need to form, we arrive at the minimum total number of rabbits in the forest — even if we didn’t hear from all of them directly.
