This breakout quietly solves a problem that has annoyed hardware folks for years. True CO₂ sensing usually means bulky NDIR modules like the SCD-30 (https://www.adafruit.com/product/4867). The acoustic sensing SCD-4x (https://www.adafruit.com/product/5187) was a big improvement on sizing struggles but it still has quite a bit of bulk compared to the temperature, humidity and barometric sensors we're used to. That's why we're 👀 at the STCC4. It's not a 'true' CO2 sensor but it does do a much better job than the 'effective CO2' (eCO2) sensors we've used before. Plus, Sensirion (https://www.adafruit.com/category/375) are super-pros at this so we trust their design a lot. The STCC4 is genuinely small and produces readings that track reality well enough to be useful for indoor air quality management. It even integrates temperature and humidity compensation when you wire up a SHT4x (https://www.adafruit.com/product/4885... it's a pure I2C setup, we went with our classic 1"x0.7" STEMMA QT (https://learn.adafruit.com/introducin...) shape and pinout. The library is already up on GitHub (https://github.com/adafruit), but we wanted to do a longer-term burn in test so we had Claude write up a quick demo that displays the CO2 readings on a 1.3" I2C OLED (https://www.adafruit.com/product/938). We did notice that over the weekend storm when we had all the windows closed and the heat on, the readings started crawling over 1100 ppm - and yeah it was pretty stuffy! So, good to see real world usage. Makes us really want one of these in every room of the house!
