Read up on other kayak crates: https://anglers.com/kayak-fishing/bes... I love tinkering with things; I think that's why I love kayak fishing so much; there's always something to mess with. Just like a lot of kayak anglers, I started with a DIY kayak crate. Typically, this is a milk crate that's been adapted to hold your rods and tackle boxes. I like these because they're cheap, lightweight, give me something to tinker with, and are compact. However, they don't secure gear very well unless you make some major modifications to them, so if you're floating in a tippy yak, I strongly recommend using something else or ensuring your gear is secured. While at ICAST a couple of years ago, I closely inspected the Flambeau Tuff Krate. I loved that it had two storage compartments with a lid (if you purchase the one with a top compartment; otherwise, it's just bungees securing your expensive fishing tackle). It's also lightweight, compact, and easy to carry. But I wasn't impressed with the build quality. It just felt kind of cheap to me. That's why I went with the YakAttack BlackPak Pro kayak fishing crate. The problem is that it's expensive, no matter what size you get, and you have to put it together, which takes a little while because there are a ton of screws. However, I believe you get what you pay for with this product. It's sturdy, easy to secure to my kayak, has a latching lid, and holds all the gear I'll need for a day or three of fishing. It's also made loading and unloading my gear from my kayak a much simpler process, and I use it on just about every kayaking trip I go on now. I plan on buying another one to store my batteries in when I save up enough money for it!
