WhatsApp and Telegram chats allegedly revealed discussions about “doses” and poisoning even while Kamalkant was hospitalized. Investigators found records showing that the poisons had been ordered online and from a company in Punjab. After a detailed investigation, both Kavita Shah and Hitesh Jain were arrested in December 2022. The police filed a 1,365-page charge sheet filled with medical reports, witness statements, courier receipts, and digital messages. Charges under IPC Sections 302 (murder), 328 (administering poison), 201 (destruction of evidence), and 120B (criminal conspiracy) were framed. Over time, the case went through multiple court hearings. Bail petitions were filed and debated — some rejected, one granted temporarily — but as of October 2025, the case remains under trial. Kavita is currently out on bail, while Hitesh Jain remains in custody.
