Long before the days of the Metra SD70MAC-H, the Long Island Railroad was notorious for using freight engines in revenue passenger service, namely EMD MP15ACs, and in the case of this video, GP38-2s. But instead of being criticized, they were loved by railfans and commuters alike, as they became the face of the railroad helped build the LIRR to become the busiest commuter railroad in North America, a stance that the railroad still holds to this day. Now, 25 years after their retirement, we're here to see what every single one of these venerable GP38s have been up to outside of Long Island, with some going to Amtrak and Canadian National as work engines, with others having more unusual fates.
