Suffering with elbow pain? Treatment not helping? Maybe you're treating the wrong area! Elbow pain can be incorrectly diagnosed as tennis (lateral epicondylitis) or golfers (medial epicondylitis) elbow. I've seen this happen many times in my 34 years in clinical practice. Then what is causing your elbow pain if it's not either of the above? Answer: Triceps tendonitis! The 3 heads of the triceps come together to form a common tendon that inserts onto the olecranon process of the ulna. When the triceps muscle contracts, it extents the elbow (primary function). Over time, through "wear and tear", you can build up fascial adhesions (AKA scar tissue) in the triceps. The triceps will lose normal elasticity and begin to "tug" on it's tendon resulting in inflammation. End result: Elbow Pain. In today's video, I demonstrate easy to perform myofascial release techniques that you can perform on your triceps. These techniques will help breakdown any fascial adhesion build up. They are called cross friction massage and "pin and stretch' technique. Both can be performed with your fingers/knuckles or a spikey massage ball (preferred method).
