(5 Sep 1995) Natural Sound NATO warplanes resumed air raids Tuesday against Bosnian Serbs, who missed a deadline to pull all heavy artillery out of range of Sarajevo. Several explosions were heard in a Serb-held suburb to the west of the Bosnian capital after allied planes flew overhead. Huge clouds of smoke were visible and after the initial strike more air activity and explosions were heard. What had started out as a tentatively calm day in Sarajevo quickly became filled with tension and air raid sirens. NATO warplanes resumed air raids Tuesday against Bosnian Serbs, who missed a deadline to pull all heavy artillery out of range of Sarajevo. Several explosions were heard in the Bosnian capital's Serb-held south-western suburbs. Detonations also were heard in Pale, the Bosnian Serb stronghold 15 kilometers (9 miles) southeast of Sarajevo. It was not immediately clear what targets had been attacked, or whether the planes had been successful. The attack ended a tense period following the expiration of a deadline for the Serbs to move about 300 artillery pieces, tanks and other heavy weapons more than 20 kilometres (12.5 miles) outside of Sarajevo. Before and for hours after the deadline, the Serbs had been gathering weapons in some areas. But the UN said the movement was limited and insufficient to meet their demands.
