Worthy was released in 2018, and ranks up there with the best of the latest new wave of Amiga games. It was released by Pixelglass - and made by long time bit hackers Alpine 9000 and Tsak. Lets give this a play, and let me guide you through the first few sections. If you love Amiga videos as much as I do, please consider sponsoring my channel: 👍👍 / lemontubeamiga 👍👍 Special Thanks to my Patreons: 🎖️🎖️🎖️🎖️ Johnny Smoesau 🥇 Bloxyman22 🥇 🥇 Sepp 🥇 🥈 Predseda 🥈 🥉David Saphier🥉 🔥 Eric Johnson 🔥 🔥Bernhard Lukas 🔥 Production Notes: =============== Captured: 27th December 2019, and 29th Aug 2020 Narrated: 22nd Sept 2020 Edited: 29th Aug 2020, and 22nd-25th Feb 2021 The story of this video starts in the Summer of 2019. As the game was being built, progress on development was being posted on EAB. John4p was running the Superleague compo at that time, on EAB. He contacted me to say the makers would be interested in having the game played in the compo, on the agreement that the game would be made available free to those who participated. It took two rounds for the game to come up in the votes, but when it did, there was a big majority of fans wanting to play it. We got to tackle this and break it down over the course of three weeks, and the result was (for me) reaching level 27. It took a lot of tries, but being able to practice any level as part of the game design meant we could train on just those levels. There were a plethora of guides and videos to each level of the game, posted on Lemon and EAB, to the point where I suggested someone should keep a record of these recorded levels to help players who get stuck on them. Surprisingly, each solution provided by players was slightly or completely different, and there are many safe ways to complete each one. So after the compo ended, in December 2019, I recorded just a few levels as a quick intro to the game. Later in 2020 I recorded some more footage, to take the story a bit further. With 75 levels to play through, I think its only fair that players get a heads up on the first 25. Nobody buys a book and expects to get stuck on page 1. There was one later level where I had to ask one of the makers how to do it. I think it was 26? The level is another where you have just to run around it, and quickly get the baddies along a linear path. Sadly I didnt reach that level in this play through, and I know 25, 26, and especially 27 are very hard. Even when I saw someone doing level 27 in a video, I could not remember the perfect way, and died over and over. Thats the only thing which spoiled the experience for me - the difficulty curve really ramps up on certain levels. I recorded myself doing the post-editing on this video for a free 'behind the scenes' special for backers. Although not sure how many will want to see me editing a video for two hours. Bugs: I dont know if Alpine is pronounced Alpeen. I got Simon's name perfect in my original narration, but changed it at the last moment. Although I say the colours are better in the second capture, in fact the colours are too deep, because I didnt know about "full and partial colours" issue back then. Now I have everything set to Partial, and this has fixed those colour bugs. Danscore: Worthy has a big name, but it doesnt try to confront those expectations, and instead delivers a highly polished and cutesy puzzle maze game. The graphics are top notch, and very colourful, without being overly cartoony. Enemies come in many different patterns - some are asleep, some can shoot you in a line of sight, while others track you all over the screen. Although you might think the samey graphics from level to level would become boring, really they are just a means to an end, and they wouldnt have had the same charm as Fire Trucks or Hitmen. The puzzle solving element is very well done, but newbies will get stuck fairly early, and wont have the pixel perfect timing or skill to beat the later levels. Sound is great, with a nice selection of tunes - some sounding mysterious, others more jolly, and can be very catchy. The package feels like licenseware; which is a good thing because thats all they are charging for the download. While this certainly has the home-brew Amiga feel, it doesnt feel low rent. On the down side, once a player has maxed out on their ability level, you cant just 'power/level up' and come back stronger. Instead the game could have done with some kind of tutorial, with arrows on the screen to show you where to go. Or at least an invulnerability spell, to skip those difficult levels. Overall I give this a 7 out of 10, in that it is a very good game, with more going on than Gem'X, and has an instant heart-felt welcoming charm. Playability would get 4, as most players will get a quarter of the way through the game, and never see the rest. But value would get a high score, because at 9 Euros, its probably going to last longer than a few pints down the pub.
