YELLOW BIRD [Chỉ Là Giấc Mơ Qua] Performed by: Johnny Tillotson "Yellow Bird," a lovely calypso music, a Haitian song, adapted by Norman Luboff, with English lyrics by Alan and Marilyn Bergman. This song was very popular in the US in the mid 50's and was recorded by various well-known artists; however. Johnny Tillotson's version is my most favorite version. The original lyrics of the song were derived from a famous poem by Oswald Duran, titled "Choucoune." Choucone is the nickname of a Haitian lady whom the author of the poem praised her beauty. The original music was composed by Michel Mauleart Monton, an American-born pianist, with a Haitian father and an American mother. The song made its way to the Top 40 Pop Hits and also reached number four on the Billboard's Hot 100 in the early 60's. "Yellow Bird" was also very popular in my native country, Vietnam, in the 60's, titled "Chỉ Là Giấc Mơ Qua." The Vietnamese lyrics are very pretty as well, but it's not a translation of the English lyrics. The Vietnamese version has a totally different story-line, but it's still a beautiful love song. I really like this song!
