Waterloo's Uptown Neighbourhood

The Uptown Waterloo neighbourhood is the city centre of Waterloo. This area includes Mary Allen and considerably newer sections to the east and the north. The oldest parts are of century plus vintage located in and around King street, Regina and as far east as Moore and Waterloo St. There are also several condo developments, with more planned in the future, but the bulk of the housing are single family homes built somewhere around the 1900s-1930s. Properties further east are typically mid century suburban bungalows and two storeys. There are some quite spectacular homes around Breithaupt Park that take full advantage of lot size and location. You’ll find limited industrial and commercial usage south of Union west of Weber. The area running north along King and Regina is a commercial/residential mix and as you go north the area is heavily influenced by the universities with a high proportion of student accommodation. Redevelopment in the area has been non stop for a number of years. Uptown Waterloo has lots of choice for groceries and entertainment. There’s Waterloo and Breithaupt Parks for outdoor recreation, and there’s the Rec Plex and the Breithaupt Facility when the weather gets cold. Everything you need is in walking distance and the LRT runs right along King for longer trips. If you’re a commuter you’ve got quick access to the expressway via Erb.
