Gryllotalpa is living in home made long tunnels in the soil and lives from earthworms, larvae and pupae of different insects. When kept in a terrarium Gryllotalpa leaves the burrow at night, seeking for food or a mate. This non aggressive insect does not sting or bite, and when kept inside a closed hand, it uses its big digging shovels of the front extremities in order to liberate itself.
