I took Khaing Mandalay Express - Day VIP Bus (9:30AM) from Yangon to Mandalay. This video is for potential foreign tourists who’s interested to take bus between Yangon and Mandalay so they know what to expect. The whole journey took about 9hr including two rest stops along the way. The VIP ticket price is 2,1000Ks per person. The VIP or Business class as some bus operators called is 2+1 seating arrangements. The normal bus is 2+2. I did not make advanced booking, just walked in. The bus was half-occupied. Night buses tend to be more crowded. So you might want to book ahead. There are now websites where you can make advanced booking and check timings. They issued a ticket with your seat numbers for the luggages you keep in the storage below. The car is fitted with individual LCD screen for entertainment and wifi. Its not like the airlines’ movie & music collections, But good enough to keep yourself entertained along the way. They serve bread buns and rolls, an orange can drink, a water bottle and a wet towel on board. There is a blanket provided for every seat. The first stop is at 115mile mark near Phyu. As it only stops for 30min, you have to make sure to keep track of your time and your bus number/color. There are a couple of restaurants lining up and street vendors nearby. Our bus stopped at “Feel Restaurant”. The toilets there are in good cleaned condition. I had Burmese meal with fish and kailan (adds-on) for lunch. The second stop is at 285mile mark, near Meikhtila. Its just 10min for the toilet break. You just go to one of the restaurant’s back to access the washroom. The amenities and environment here are very similar to 115mile stop. We approached Mandalay around 6PM after the darkness set in. The highway bus station at Mandalay is also called Kywal Sel Kan Station. Some operators provide shuttle service from the station to the city area. You can check with the bus operator you are taking. The recommended way to get in touch is by phone. Otherwise, try Facebook as most business in Myanmar rely on FB.
