SUMMARY Newliston House and Estate is a magnificent Georgian Mansion designed by Robert Adam, intact with it's entire estate of woodlands, policy parkland, formal gardens, farmland, and outbuildings that predate the mansion. LOCATION Newliston is located on Edinburgh’s urban fringe, only 10 miles from the city center, and 4 miles from Edinburgh Airport. Edinburgh, Scotland’s capital city, is renowned for its historic Old Town and famous skyline dominated by Edinburgh Castle, and the classical architecture of its New Town. Known globally as a financial centre and home to a number of highly acclaimed universities, it now attracts hundreds of thousands of visitors a year particularly during the month of August when it plays host to Edinburgh’s International Festival and Fringe, a cultural feast of the arts including music, theatre, film and literature. Situated between the confluence of central Scotland’s motorway road network, quick and easy access to all parts of Scotland could not be easier. THE MANSION 18,146 SF, 5 Reception rooms, 13 bedrooms, 6 bathrooms, and a 3 bedroom self-contained apartment. Grade A listed Robert Adam Mansion. Despite its stately and imposing appearance, the main house exudes the warmth of being a cherished and loved family home. A HISTORICAL NOTE The Dundas family owned Newliston for nearly three centuries, beginning with Duncan Dundas in the 15th century. In 1669, Elizabeth Dundas married Sir David Dalrymple, later Earl of Stair. Their son, Field Marshal John Dalrymple, redesigned the gardens between 1722–1742, inspired by Versailles, with canals, tree avenues, a ha-ha, walled garden, and a Union Jack layout. After his death in 1747, the estate passed to banker Roger Hog and later his son Thomas, who, with Lady Mary Maitland, resumed construction with Robert Adam. Though Adam died in 1792, Newliston is thought his last country house. The wings, added in 1845 by David Bryce, echoed Adam’s vision.
