Integration and symmetry through the posterior line and functional back lines are foundational when we walk and run. The faster you run and the harder you push your body the more critical the function of these kinetic chains become. In Magnolia’s case, earlier this year we found a significant left / right asymmetry which could lead to strain and injury. We treated these using the closed kinetic chain, body weight off loaded, suspension exercise method from Redcord Neurac. The importance of treating unilaterally is based on the fact that we are reciprocal and unilateral beings when we walk and run. The diagonal functional back line connects the upper body via the latissimus across the TLF (thoraco-lumbar fascia) to the lower body via the opposite side glute down into the hamstring. We can see how local stabilizer control through the “core” is critical in controlling the position of the rib cage and pelvis so we can efficiently transfer forces through the body. This is a critical chain which Magnolia calls on for her power when she runs. Optimal performance is gained as we quickly challenge (increase body weight, add rotation, or perturbate the ropes as seen in the video) and progress these exercises while a watchful therapist eye insures proper body alignment and control.
