It starts with two best friends, Orlin Sorensen and Brett Carlile, and their shared dream of proving that the best whiskey doesn't have to be made in Kentucky. Or Scotland. It can be made right here in Washington State. Orlin and Brett had a strong belief from the beginning: to make the best liquids, you can't cut corners and must do things the right way, even if they're inefficient. The highest quality locally grown grains, the best barrels and coopers in the world, the most technologically advanced distilling equipment, and the mentorship of an industry icon: David Pickerell, former Master Distiller for Maker’s Mark. After five years of hard work, we released our flagship Straight Bourbon Whiskey in 2015 to a line of more than 300 people. Since then, the American Distilling Institute has awarded our whiskey “Craft Whiskey of the Year” and “Craft Rye Whiskey of the Year” two years in a row. In March 2020, in perhaps their most prestigious honor to date, the San Francisco World Spirits Competition gave its highest honors to that same flagship bourbon: a Double Gold medal and the title of “Best Straight Bourbon Whiskey of 2020.” And our off-road adventure is far from over. With a growing portfolio of permanent and limited releases, we’re now available nationally in the US with plans for global expansion. Closer to home, we’re always planning new groundbreaking premium bourbon and rye whiskeys. You might want to get in line for those now. http://liquornliquor.com/ Here at Liquor & Liquor we are fortunate to be able to offer a wide variety of whisky from around the world! We work closely with our distributors and the distillers themselves to provide a unique and broad selection of Scotch, US and other worldly whiskeys! Whisky, or Whiskey, is a type of distilled alcoholic beverage made from fermented grain mash. Different grains are used for different varieties, including barley, malted barley, rye, malted rye, wheat, buckwheat and corn. Whisky is typically aged in American charred white oak, however may be aged, or “further rested” in additional casks such as sherry, port, madeira, French limousine and previously used casks. Washington state liquor taxes Washington State levies two primary taxes on liquor sales: a spirits sales tax (SST) and a spirits liter tax (SLT). Spirits Sales Tax (SST) This tax is based on the selling price of spirits in their original packaging. The general public pays an SST rate of 20.5%. On-premises retailers, like restaurants and bars, pay a reduced SST rate of 13.7% on purchases from distributors and distillers. Spirits Liter Tax (SLT) The SLT is based on the volume of spirits sold in their original packaging. The general public pays an SLT rate of $3.7708 per liter. On-premises retailers pay a reduced SLT rate of $2.4408 per liter on purchases from distributors and distillers. Important Notes: These spirits taxes are to be itemized separately on price lists or invoices. Washington's liquor taxes are among the highest in the nation. Distilled spirits excise tax rates in Washington are $36.98 per gallon, ranking as the highest in the nation as of January 1, 2025.
