The weight of Mexico in the world criminal chessboard has progressively increased during the last decades of the 20th century thanks to the expansion of what are commonly called drug cartels. In order to have the most complete picture possible of the Mexican case, it's necessary to keep in mind some contextual factors, necessary to understand the dynamics that define what is called narcodemocracy.
