Italy's Cortina d'Ampezzo ski resort is one of the most beautiful places on earth! No wonder, Cortina is often called the "Queen of the Dolomites", or the "Pearl of the Dolomites." Knowing that the 2026 Winter Olympics will be held in Cortina drew us to go have a look at the ski resort. Join us in this video for a video tour of Cortina d'Ampezzo - we film all of the primary lifts, show the terrain they serve, the runs (pistes) we skied, and we share the incredible scenery! Skiing in Cortina began in the 1930's, and in 1956 it hosted the first Italian Winter Olympic Games. Cortina will host the Winter Olympics again in 2026. The Cortina ski resort is made up of three primary ski areas: Tofana, Cinque Torri-Lagazuoi part of the ski resort features the "Super 8" and Super 8 video tour link: ADD link of February 21. the Armentarola run which leads from the top of the Lagazuoi tram down a remote valley (often called Hidden Valley by North Americans), is likely the most scenic run in the Alps, and possibly the most scenic ski run in the world! Cortina is known for its high-end shopping, impressive restaurants and luxury hotels. Cortina is one of the most popular destinations in Europe's Alps. Cortina ski resort statistics by themselves are impressive with 120 km (75 miles) of pistes, 36 lifts, and 86 slopes. Cortina ski resort has a total vertical of 1611 meters (5285 feet) with its highest lift served point being 2828 meters (9278 feet) and the base being 1217 meters (3992) feet. The terrain is 87 percent easier and intermediate, and 13 percent difficult. Cortina's three main ski areas feature a total of 26 lifts (3 trams, 2 gondolas, 19 chairlifts, and 2 surface lifts. Cortina ski area has impressive snow making capability covering over 90 percent of the pistes making it a snow-sure ski destination. Cortina is part of the Dolomiti Superski area which features 12 ski resorts, over 1200 km (745 miles) of pistes, and 450 lifts. We skied Cortina using the IKON pass, so the lift tickets were free. We stayed in Hotel Royal. Our favorite restaurants include: Janbo, Pizzeria Porto Rotondo, and Pontejel Bierstube Forst. We are trying to ski and see the world's most beautiful and scenic places.
