Washington couple dies in Maui snorkeling incident, leaving toddler behind

A pregnant woman and her husband drowned while snorkeling during a vacation in Maui, Hawaii, last weekend, leaving behind an 18-month-old son. A GoFundMe created by the family identified the couple as 25-year-old Ilya and 26-year-old Sophia Tsaruk. The County of Maui Department of Fire & Public Safety said on Sept. 14 at around 12:02 p.m., units responded to a report of swimmers and snorkelers in distress near the north side of the Ahihi-Kinau Natural Area Reserve.
