Personal respirator for treating covid-19 (PeRSo) | University of Southampton

Professors Paul Elkington and Hywel Morgan as they talk about their pioneering personal respirator – PeRSo – an alternative form of personal protective equipment (PPE) to be worn by clinical staff treating people with coronavirus. Both Paul and Hywel worked on the initial designs with McLaren, before joining forces with INDO, who commercialsed the technology and have provided more than 4000 respirators to University Hospital Southampton where they are being used on the wards. We are incredibly grateful to both Paul and Hywel for taking the time to speak to us about their vital work, which is having an enormous impact on the safety of our clinical staff. With help from the Southampton Coronavirus Response Fund, we plan to roll out the project to support developing world communities.
