Kerid Crater: Most Beautiful Volcano Crater in Iceland!

Kerid is a 55 meter deep funnel-shaped crater along the Golden Circle in Southern Iceland. Kerid Crater is partly filled with water, what makes it extra special. The crater was created by the collapse of a small magma chamber after an eruption about 3000 years ago. You can hike around the crater and take a walk to the lake. It is part of a big crater complex on the island, with the name Tjarnarhólar. It is said that when the water level in Kerid rises, the water in a small lake on top of Mount Búrfell (5 km north of the crater) falls, and vice versa. Kerid is about 50 meters from the road, there is a parking lot. You have to pay an entrance fee.
