More than 1.4 million people are registered as Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in Eastern Ukraine. The majority of these families lack access to even the most basic necessities, such as clean drinking water and essential hygiene supplies. Hospitals and health clinics, schools and local emergency responders remain strained as the conflict continues, facing a constant threat of violence and with essential materials in short supply. On October 3rd, DMGF volunteers and members of the Toronto Ukrainian community packed 1440 Family Hygiene Kits at the Convenience Group location in Etobicoke. Each kit will include essential items such as toothbrushes, toothpaste and bars of soap to protect families’ health, as well as Aquatab water purification tablets to secure access to safe, clean drinking water for an entire family for six months. Trauma supplies to support overwhelmed hospitals and clinics, along with firefighting equipment to strengthen the capacity of local emergency responders are included in the relief shipment as well. Finally, supplies of Blast Film will be shipped to protect 18 additional hospitals and schools, ensuring they remain operational and safe. After packing, the supplies were shipped to Ukraine where our Canadian Rapid Response Team (RRT) will distribute the kits to displaced families, deliver the trauma supplies and firefighting equipment to facilities in need, and install the Blast Film on vulnerable public buildings affected by the conflict.
