This is one of your most delicious and nutritious edible weeds that you probably see in your backyard every spring. Mis-named because its leaves look like nettle leaves but called "dead" because they do not sting, and nor are they in the nettle family. These non-native and often invasive "weeds" are nutrient bombs! They are packed with vitamins, especially vitamin C and many anti-oxidants. Early settlers would gobble these up in stews and salads after a winter diet of dried meats and beans. Many of our 'weeds" have much more vitamins in them then store bought vegetables that are often bred and cultivate for values other than nutrition, like long shelf-life, shipping qualties and looks.
