Only $5 for 10 PCBs and Only $4.98 for 3D Printing + Express 24 hour service on http://www.pcbway.com/ Hot-swappable mechanical keyboards allow users to change the mechanical switches. This way they can experiment with various options of clicky, tactile and linear mechanical switches with various tech specs and colors: red, blue, brown, green, silver, etc. Kailh offers hot-swap sockets for surface-mount technology (SMT) assembly. In this video we will explore the advantages and disadvantages, compare them to holtite sockets, explore a printed circuit board for mini mechanical keyboard designed with the free and open source CAD software KiCad. Furthermore I will demonstrate hand soldering of Kailh hot-swappable sockets on a prototype board with XIAO module and Raspberry Pi RP2040 microcontroller manufactured by PCBWay. The keyboards used in the video are powered by the open source firmware QMK and KMK. 0:00 Hot-swap keyboards 1:42 Datasheet 4:15 SMT Sockets 5:12 KiCad PCB Design 7:18 Hand Soldering 8:49 Testing Hot-Swap Sockets 10:02 Conclusions
