In 2023 U&I Event Center and CDZ Collegium Musica formed a partnership in creating a weekly concert series/ This was not a sudden decision; in fact, there were many times during the past two-plus years they partnered together on multicultural music programs. U&I and CDZ share a common goal: "bringing the community together through music performance, education, and cultural exchange." The last component is what distinguishes this concert series. This video provides some examples of the cultural and musical diversity represented, music from Spain, Persia, Egypt, India, Argentina, Brazil, Mexico, also included is folk, blues, and jazz. ---------------------- CDZ Collegium Musica, established as a 501 (c)(3) non-profit 2016, “brings the community together through music performance, education, and cultural exchange.” The collegium mission is provides transformational educational and cultural experiences through music performances, masterclasses, workshops, and seminars that benefit children, young people and adults. Thanks to grant funding from RACC & NEA and financial contribution, we sponsored over 30 performances at schools, churches, educational community centers, and retirement communities. In 2022 the collegium Musical Travel Series presented musical cultural from Japan, Iran, Armenia, Ukraine, Russia, Brazil, and Argentina. Additionally, the collegium sponsored guitar masterclasses, as well as music theory classes for guitarists. The PGS and Collegium Musica have partnered on a number of community activities; such as, our first in person meetings (beginning in November of 2021), and in 2022 the collegium and PGS partnered in having a monthly Guitar Orchestra (Jam) Session. Guitarists at these music-making meetings experience a diverse musical experience: from Irish reels and Brazilian choros to Scarlatti sonatas. The collegium has also joined in bringing guitar and music, as a healing and enriching experience, to young people in North Portland and Southeast Portland (2022 Summer Program). CDZ Collegium Musica provided instructional (specially created teaching material/books) and special educational performances from our Artist-in-Resident program: Shohei Toyoda (Japan) and Lo Steele (Portland). Joining forces with NPO Free Guitars 4 Kids (Ben Dudley, CEO), Fender Guitars, and Portland Public Schools the Collegium helped put together a Summer Guitar/Music Camp Program Roosevelt and McDaniel High School. Thanks to his program 180 young people received free guitars and six weeks of free guitar training. Lastly, the collegium supported and promoted Chocolate Africa Classical Guitar in Nigeria Africa, and notable local Portland concert series Siempre Guitarra (a classical guitar series).
