What happens when a wild monkey starts hanging around where you live? 🐒 In this episode of Conflict Case Studies from a Conservation Scientist, I'm sharing a real life human–monkey conflict that I was called in to resolve. This isn’t just theory, it is a lived case with terrified residents, divided opinions, and a very persistent bonnet macaque. Relocation is often seen as the “solution,” but in reality, it rarely works. The trauma of capture, social disruption, and survival challenges make it one of the last options. So how do you keep both people and monkeys safe when they’re forced to live side-by-side? Here’s what I did: I listened to residents’ fears, explained monkey behaviour, worked with their community, and built strategies that protected both humans and the monkey. And in the end, we found a way forward without harm, without relocation, and with real learning that built capacity for the future. This case study is not just about monkeys. It’s about how we approach human–wildlife conflict everywhere! ✅ Why listening to people matters as much as protecting animals ✅Why feeding wildlife fuels conflict ✅Why prevention beats relocation every single time ✅And how simple behavioural shifts can stop a conflict before it escalates The best part? The residents now want to collaborate on workshops and extend them to schools. A small win that shows how coexistence begins, even if it's one apartment building at a time. 🌆 Until urban development includes space for wildlife, conflict will keep rising. But if we understand ecology, behaviour, build capacity, stay consistent with education, and prioritize coexistence, we can change the story. Heck, we can transform the entire narrative! ⏱️ Timestamps 00:00 – Introduction: Adhvaya and Human-Monkey Conflicts 01:49 – What happened in the case?
