A Young Mother’s Journey through Cookery Skills

Born into a family of eight (8) with limited resources, Elizabeth left school after primary level, worked as a housemaid and faced early motherhood. While washing clothes to support her child, she heard that the Empowerment through Skills Program (ESP) was offering training through her local Folk Development College in Singida. She enrolled in the cookery programme, something she’d always loved. Thanks to ESP-supported training and new equipment, she acquired new skills in making cakes, breakfast bites; learnt how to serve customers and run a small business. Now she sees a future where she can bake, sell, and support herself and her child; a testament to how ESP is turning skills into sustainable livelihoods for young women and adolescent girls.
