Do not attempt to make soap unless you have thoroughly researched the soapmaking process. Making soap requires the use of lye which is also called Sodium Hydroxide. Lye is a caustic substance that can cause severe burns if it’s inhaled or makes contact with skin. It is VERY important to do all of your soap making in a well-ventilated area and be sure to use rubber gloves, goggles and a surgical mask. Long sleeved shirts are also recommended to protect your arms. ****************************************************************** BASIC HOT PROCESS SOAP RECIPE 8 oz Canola Oil (33.33%) 6 oz Coconut Oil (25%) 10 oz Olive Oil (41.67%) 9 oz Distilled Water 3.38 oz Sodium Hydroxide (Lye) .25 oz Spearmint Essential Oil .25 oz Eucalyptus Essential Oil Dried Spearmint Leaves for top of soap (optional) I used the full amount of water for this recipe and 5% excess fat for the lye. **If you make any changes to the recipe BE SURE TO RECALCULATE THE RECIPE WITH THE LYE CALCULATOR TO MAKE SURE YOU ARE USING THE CORRECT AMOUNT OF LYE/OILS!!** Here are some links to useful websites and tutorials that were helpful to me in my soapmaking journey!
