ALT (Alternate) + ALA (Alabama) = ALTALA It was to be a sort of post-apocalyptic / steampunk / syfy background for telling flying adventures. It still fills that spot today. You can go to the “ALTALA - 00 - Prologue” post to get more details, but the essentials go like this: With rare exceptions, there is NO radio communication,NO electrical infrastructure, NO GPS navigation, NO internet, virtually NO working automobiles… (Some “fantastical catastrophe” has taken it all down). Government (as we know it) has generally disintegrated. The near absence of motor vehicles has made aircraft extremely valuable for long distance travel. Most local civilization has turned to smaller city-state “FSE Zones”, generally centered on an aerodrome of some type. Air travel is the safest mode, due to roaming highwaymen (road pirates), reavers, mobs, and various other bad things you might imagine out in the woods. That’s the condensed version of the origin of -ALTALA-Air-. It is a JOB and an ADVENTURE!
