Today, AnAn and friends set out to explore two magnificent statues: the 42-meter-tall Amitabha Buddha and the 21-meter-tall Avalokitesvara (Guanyin) Bodhisattva at Nui Noi Pagoda in An Giang Province. Nui Noi Pagoda is located in Tan Thanh Commune, Tan Chau Town, An Giang Province, a place associated with many sacred legends of the Mekong Delta region. One old tale says that when this area was still a vast sea, a merchant ship struck a reef and sank. Over time, the sea gradually receded, and the spot where the ship had sunk rose up to form a mound about 10 meters high with a circumference of over 300 meters. From that point on, Nui Noi (“Floating Mountain”) was formed, where locals built a pagoda and have worshipped ever since. This is considered one of the traditional legends about the origin of Nui Noi Pagoda. Nui Noi Pagoda is about 70 km from Long Xuyen and is easily accessible by motorbike or car. From Long Xuyen, follow National Highway 91, cross Chau Doc Bridge, then continue along the provincial road and follow map directions or ask local residents. Unlike the long and steep road up Sam Mountain, this route is fairly flat, easy to travel, and suitable for all types of vehicles.
