What we give our attention to shapes how we think, choose, and relate to the world. In a time of constant noise, learning to respond with intention matters more than ever. Today’s guest is Dr Gregory P. Smith OAM from Australia, whose life journey reflects remarkable resilience and transformation. After a childhood marked by abuse, institutional care, and homelessness, he withdrew from society and lived alone as a hermit in rainforest near Byron Bay for nearly ten years. He later returned to society, pursued higher education, earned a PhD in sociology, and is now a senior lecturer at Southern Cross University researching homelessness, trauma, and social marginalisation. His work bridges lived experience and academic insight, giving voice to people society often overlooks. In this short video, you'll get to know a little bit from him. The full interview is in the comments. We invite you to listen and notice what becomes possible when attention is guided not by noise, but by awareness and meaning. Thank you, Dr. Smith, for your honesty, courage, and commitment to helping others find dignity and understanding through your work. Full episode is here: • Interview Gregory P. We never imagined this journey would lead to a world record. It was not a goal. It emerged naturally from following curiosity and NEWNESS. If you are curious to explore how this mindset can support greater clarity, confidence, and purposeful change in your own life or work, we invite you to connect with Vivian (Hang Phung) Tran and me and follow our journey with NEWNESS.
