Recently I’ve found myself intrigued by a Super Mario 64 fan project called B3313. It’s a ROM hack that was created to reimagine Super Mario 64, with a focus on the “Every copy of Super Mario 64 is personalized” myth. This creepypasta claims that there is an adaptation AI that changes the game to fit the player’s desires, playstyle and skill. Now I don’t think I need to tell you that this creepypasta is just that, a creepypasta. It isn’t real, and I can tell you that there’s no AI that adapts to your skill level. That or my own AI just hates me. Anyway, while I was watching videos about Mario 64 horror, I got reminded of the creepy things in other Nintendo 64 titles. Games like Ocarina of Time, Majora’s Mask, and even some non Nintendo 64 titles like the original Spyro trilogy. And all of these thoughts got me wondering: What made these games so creepy?
