SPBGMA 2026 Fiddle Jam | Ashland Breakdown, Jerusalem Ridge, Bluegrass in the Backwoods & More

This all-fiddle jam was recorded in the SPBGMA 2026 exhibit hall and features a great group of fiddlers Finn McGuinness, Hollace Oakes and Keith Williams trading tunes on Saturday afternoon. If you love hard-driving fiddle tunes, twin fiddles, and old-school bluegrass energy, this one’s for you. Hollace Oakes wandered back over to the vendor table of Lebron Batey of Sylvania, Alabama, who builds some truly great-sounding fiddles. Keith Williams, master luthier and fiddle player from Chuckey, Tennessee, was already there playing his 5-string, and before long Finn McGuinness joined in to make it a full fiddle jam. What makes this especially fun is the mix of generations. Hollace and Finn are teenagers, yet they hold their own effortlessly alongside Keith — a reminder of just how deep the next generation of bluegrass talent already runs, and how special it is when young players get to trade tunes with musicians of Keith’s experience and caliber. During this video, fiddles get swapped around a bit—Hollace plays one of Lebron’s fiddles part of the time, Finn’s fiddle part of the time, and Finn plays one of Lebron’s fiddles as well. (Now if Hollace could just convince either Lebron—or preferably Keith—to give her a custom fiddle… she may have to start saving her pennies and get on the waiting list.) Hollace says it's a little difficult to get the intonation just perfect on a fiddle you have been playing for 5 minutes, so sorry for the few notes that might be a hair off. This really is a true fiddle jam—three fiddles, no other instruments. Dad couldn’t pick just one tune when editing, so instead of a single song, this video includes multiple tunes from a longer jam session. If you’re a fiddle fan, you’re going to love this. The tunes featured include Ashland Breakdown, Jerusalem Ridge, Bluegrass in the Backwoods, and Brown County Barn, along with some great twin-fiddle moments and chopping techniques Hollace and Finn picked up portions of from Casey Driessen at the Swannanoa Gathering in 2023.
