Timecodes: 0:00 Intro 0:26 Backstory 06:41 Preparation to surgery 08:54 Surgery 11:33 Post-op period / recovery 16:40 Side-effects after 3 month 19:06 Takeaways --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I've had a long history of chronic tonsillitis since my early childhood (3-4 y.o.) when I firstly underwent tonsillotomy (reduction of tonsils). Last month before the surgery I've started to develop severe symptoms of the disease: -tonsil & throat pain -lump feeling due to enlarged tonsil -heart arythmy -severe fatigue & tiredness / flu-like state -more than that, I've started to develop health anxiety related to tonsil cancer All of the above led me to the surgery. It was performed under general anesthesia together with septoplasty and turbinate reduction operations. I haven't felt anything during the surgery, but there was a side effect from the anesthesia - all my muscles hurt for 3 days. Post-op period / recovery What I've experienced during the post-op period: -severe throat pain (easiest in days 1-3, hardest from day 6-12, mostly went away only after 1 month) -dry throat -problems with sleeping -ate & drank only fluids for 2-3 days, was back to normal food after 12 days. -I was in the hospital for 11 days under doc's observation; 3 weeks more at home with a sick leave. After 3 month post-op it still a bit hurts to yawn, right side of the throat (where the infected tonsil were) still has strange feeling/sensation of pain, tention, dryness. Hope this will go away with time. Furthermore, throat became more dry in the mornings. P.S. Tonsils biopsy went out healthy!
