e: [email protected] / @newsivity Women Safety related incidents are said to be on the rise across many regions in India, and in particularly it is women from rural locations that are feeling more and more unsafe when traveling alone. There have been a number of high profile cases being covered in international news reports and many solutions are being piloted locally. Two Young female Students at a college in Varanasi in India have come up with their solution, albeit a rather extreme one. Rijul Pandey and Saloni Yadav have invented a device which they call the ELECTRIC SHOCK + GPS SANDALS The sandals enables the wearer to immediately protect herself whenever she feels she is at threat from a perpetrator. This devised sandal can give up to 800 volts of electric shock whenever the girl touches it to the person who may be attacking her. The person will become unconscious for some time allowing the wearer to call for help. In this sandal, in its heel there is a transistor in which diodes, two switches, LED light connecting wires are placed. By pressing one button the sandal will be activated which is indicated by a red LED light and by pressing a second button the girl can give a shock to the person posing a threat. The GPS function enables her exact location to be tracked when alerted. The girls decided to take the initiative to devise this 'shock-giving' sandal and it is truly commendable that their proactive action has come up with quite the innovative solution. In parts of the world where health and safety issues are prevalent it may not be the best tool, but if it empowers the wearer to feel safe and it can act as a deterrent... then it's certainly worthy of use.
