From TrekWorks Welcome, This video series from TrekWorks features a review and build of the Round 2 Models Klingon Battle Cruiser model from Star Trek TOS. This model kit has been on the market in various forms since AMT released it in 1967 as the Alien Battle Cruiser. Matt Jeffries , the art designer of Star Trek TOS, designed this ship directly for AMT to be released as a rival ship to the USS Enterprise kit released the previous year in 1966. At the time, the ship had not yet been seen on the TV show. Two 28" filming miniatures were produced by AMT for Star Trek based on Jeffries designs. There were some details omitted on the studio models from the Jeffries Blue prints and so the screen versions differ from those. Round 2 has gone back and made some changes and now this model more closely represents the filming models if not in size but detail. This kit builds out to about 18" in length. The filming models were painted in two different schemes. The first being an all Green design and the second, with a two tone color of Green on the bottom side and Violet Grey on the top. The two tone version according to Trek production insiders, was the one Gene Roddenberry himself chose and was used on the show. I'll be doing the two tone version paint scheme on this kit. i will also be doing fiber optic lighting at the forward section of the ship with an effort not to take too many liberties. There was no lighting on the original prop but it was intended to be as represented by the window port decals which come with this kit. Some ports will be lit, some won't. Other than that it will be built and painted as is. I will finish up by wiring and mounting the model on a custom box with switching for the lights and spot lighting to highlight the display. You'll see the entire process step by step right here in these videos. We hope you'll follow along and we'll see you next time for part 2 For more Star Trek Model Kit reviews and builds tune in to TrekWorks channel on You Tube to catch all the action!
