Nida AbuBaker is the proud daughter of Shukri AbuBaker, the founder and CEO of the Holy Land Foundation. In 2008, her father, along with co-founder Ghassan Elashi, was wrongfully imprisoned for providing humanitarian aid to Palestinian children. Despite being unjustly sentenced to 65 years, their cause was one of charity, not terrorism. Three of the Holy Land Foundation’s "5" — Abdulrahman Odeh, Mohammed El-Mezain, and Mufid Abdulqader — who were sentenced to 15-20 years, have since served their time and been released.
