February 2026 Frequency Fridays: Staring Contest

On the evening of Friday, February 6th, we proudly featured percussionist Joe Tomino (CLE). multi-instrumentalists Leia Hohenfeld and Ben Gmetro’s duo project Staring Contest (CLE), experimental electronic musician Dvvid Watson’s solo project Slime Counter (CMH), and improvisational musician Etiyen Eshett (CMH). Supporters of our 2025-2026 season include the Greater Columbus Arts Council, the Ohio Arts Council, the National Endowment for the Arts, and the Columbus Foundation. About the artists: Staring Contest: Leia Hohenfeld & Ben Gmetro: Leia Hohenfeld and Ben Gmetro are Cleveland-based multi-instrumentalist collaborators whose work has developed over more than two decades of shared practice. Their music explores the intersection of acoustic and electronic sound, often emphasizing texture, timbre, and gradual transformation. For this performance, they employed analog and digital synthesizers alongside a range of flutes (bass flute, glissando flute, and piccolo), creating a focused sonic environment shaped by layering, resonance, and subtle shifts in density and space.
