Tropical Storm Cristobal made landfall in Tabasco and Campeche in Mexico on Wednesday with winds near 60mph, and remains deep inland over the jungles of the southern Yucatan Peninsula, near the border with Guatemala. Earlier today it weakened to depression status, and is possibly losing tropical characteristics at this time. However, with satellite estimates of 44 inches (1100mm) of rain near the landfall zone, catastrophic flooding is likely or occurring. Regardless of further development when Cristobal finally reaches the Gulf, rainfall amounts could be large and widespread across multiple Gulf Coast states of the United States by the end of the weekend. Cyclone Nisarga rapidly intensified before landfall in western India on Wednesday, striking with winds near 85mph, a doubling of its intensity in only 12 hours. The remnants are still alive and the system is now entering Nepal, still with significant rainfall amounts. Elsewhere, the remnants of 92A continue to live on over the Red Sea.
