Former superintendent Ian Roberts now charged for falsely stating he was a US citizen

Ian Roberts has now been federally charged with one count of false statement for employment, court documents show. A grand jury says Roberts lied on his I-9 submitted as part of his hiring process for Des Moines Public Schools. The jury says Roberts said he was a U.S. citizen "knowing he was not in fact a United States citizen." The false statement is in violation of Title 18, United States Code, Section 1546(b)(3), which states "Whoever uses a false attestation for the purpose of satisfying a requirement of section 274A(b) of the Immigration and Nationality Act, shall be fined under this title, imprisoned not more than 5 years, or both."
