Let's leverage the AIOC (all-in-one-cable) to create a Yaesu TNC/data interface. With a USB cable you can use your PC/Pi to operate your radio over packet, aprs, ax.25 and even send SMS/email. Yaesu adds additional difficulty points by multiplexing a single wire for ptt/audio so we simply add a small capacitor and resistor to the circuit. It's a brutal reality that the Baofeng HT's have desense/reception issues. By upgrading to a traditional Yaesu rig, you'll receive many more packets. This cable works with all Yaesu HT's via the 1/8" TRRS speaker mic jack. FT5DR, FT3DR, FT2DR, FT1DR, FT60, FT70 and more. This cable will not work with other handhelds unless they also multiplex the TX/Mic audio with the PTT wire. A big shout out to Simon for designing the AIOC interface, distribution from g1lro and na6d, https://g1lro.uk/?p=85 https://na6d.com/products/aioc-ham-ra... https://github.com/skuep/AIOC The AIOC is "open hardware" with many manufacturers so check ebay and other similar outlets in your area. Disable SAVERX on the HT. Use the Upper (A) VFO. Volume on HT set to "3." Disable APRS and/or the lower (B) VFO.
