It's a one stop light town about 30 miles west of Durango on Hwy 160. The town has a popular local artist scene and just enough stores to keep you stocked up on necessary supplies. The people are really friendly and very informative about the local attractions. The main attraction would be San Juan National Forest located right outside of town. There are a ton of incredibly scenic trails that don't get much traffic. We spent the entire month of August exploring the nearby trails, looking for all the old mines and of course flowing water.
